Curves and periods

The Cashflow panel's Period by month, week or quarter; an assignment's Curve with its ten standard shapes and the chart redrawn as the money moves; Spread to fix one week's cost by hand; and a curve of your own drawn in twenty five-percent blocks, saved to your library for other schedules.

Money is seldom spent evenly, whatever the budget says. The cashflow counts it by week or year, and bends it as the work does.

In the Cashflow panel, Period sets each column's length: a week, a month, a quarter or a year. Month, then week, then quarter: the same money, cut into shorter or longer columns.

In Details, Resources, each assignment has a Curve: ten standard shapes for how its cost is spent. Front loaded spends it early, back loaded late. The chart redraws; the total, mercifully, stays put.

Spread lists the remaining cost by week. Type a figure to fix one; the others share the rest. Or draw your own under Resources, Cash flow curves: twenty five-percent blocks on ten slices of time.

Save it, then Save to library, and the curve is kept for your other schedules. On any schedule, Add to this schedule copies it in, ready for an assignment's Curve.

That was curves and periods. Next in the Guide: earned value, and the baseline it is measured against.
