Links: the four types, lag and lead

The four kinds of link drawn on two bars: finish-to-start, start-to-start, finish-to-finish and the rare start-to-finish; a lag that opens a gap and a lead that overlaps; then Details, Predecessors with each link's type and lag, the Driving tick, and the lag units on a Standard schedule.

TRANSCRIPTEvery word of the video, as text.

Activities are nouns; links are the grammar that joins them. Four kinds, one pause, one overlap, and a tick that says which one matters.

Finish-to-start is the plain one: the second activity starts when the first finishes, and the arrow runs from end to start. Start-to-start: the two begin together. Finish-to-finish: they end together, however long each one takes.

Start-to-finish is the rare one: the second cannot finish until the first has begun. It reads backwards, because it is. Add a lag and the second waits: plus two days opens a gap. A negative lag is a lead, and the bars overlap.

Details, Predecessors: each link with its type and lag. The Driving tick marks the one setting the date. On a Standard schedule, a lag counts working time, elapsed time, or a share of the predecessor.

That was links in principle. Next in the Guide: links by shorthand, ten keystrokes and one cell.
