Scenario 3 · a P6 file, Simple mode

A P6 schedule, just over two thousand activities, and a Friday update. Simple mode, six columns, and a look-ahead for the site.

Edit opens the file to try things out; the XER stays as it came. It opens on the Advanced engine, which behaves similarly to P6 in activity types, float and longest path.

Choose Simple on the pill: six columns, links by name, always Auto. Type a branch name in Find activities…: only its rows stay, and their parents.

Details opens Basics, the whole activity: dates, duration, percent done, and what it comes after. Three activities, three new percentages. Auto moves the rest as you press Enter; the bars follow.

Link by name, with a lag: type the name, then plus two d. The lag box reads two. Save as keeps the update as a PC.o Schedule: keep the name, press OK. The XER is untouched.

Press Run analysis: the viewer reads an analysed schedule, so give it one. Back in Files, the copy sits beneath the XER. Its View door, the chart icon, opens the viewer.

The copy's View door opens the viewer: Export, then 3-week look-ahead, for the site. From the data date, three weeks. Change the dates, add the fields they need, and Download.

The look-ahead downloads as Excel, ready for the site to mark up. Nothing is saved in PC.o. A look-ahead row has its own doors in the menu: Open to edit it, View Excel, and Gantt.
